How Many Pictures Do I Need of the Car Wreck?

How Many Pictures Do I Need of the Car Wreck?

The car accident is always a jarring experience; while just witnessing the crash of two cars or watching a truck plow into a car or any other combination of the vehicles is traumatic, being in the car and being struck due to the negligence of another driver is terrifying. And while you may or may not be injured, your car most likely is!

The most important step to take after a car wreck is to assess injuries to yourself and passengers. You may need to ride in an ambulance to the hospital, or in some cases could be unconscious upon being hit by another car or truck, however, if you are on the scene and able to move around enough to get out of the car and survey what has happened, it is a good idea to collect as much evidence as possible with photos.

If you are unable to do this but still have the wherewithal to ask someone else to do so, it could be critical to your insurance settlement. Keep in mind also though, if you have been involved in a serious car accident, it is best to consult with a skilled car accident attorney who will send out a team of specialists to make sure evidence is preserved.

If you are mobile, get out your smartphone and start clicking away. Beginning with your own car, capture the license plate and damage from all angles. You really can’t have too many photographs. After that, move onto the other car, also snapping a shot of their license plate and all the visible damage to their car. You may even have visible injuries on your body that you can take pictures of or have someone else take, within reason.

Photograph everything relevant to the scene also. This includes the roadway at the scene and any parts or glass that may have fallen into it, traffic lights, traffic signs that may have been ignored, the whole layout of the intersection, and anything else that may be useful to your case in terms of the surroundings that can be documented. As you are busy inspecting the scene (without disturbing any evidence), keep an eye out for any possible witnesses. These individuals may be more important to your case than anything else, by far, as they could be able to offer an eyewitness account of what happened during the crash.

While you know what happened from your perspective, a witness watching from another car of the sidewalk may have a comprehensive account of the crash. Request all contact information from as many witnesses as possible, including work phone numbers.
